Setup guide in 3 simple steps

Follow these simple steps to set up the mosque computer and the teachers' phones

1

Unzip and start the server

Download the Windows or Linux package on the mosque computer, unzip the folder, then run start-quran-server.bat (or start-here.sh on Linux). The server starts and the admin screen opens in the browser.

2

Register teachers and students, and print the cards

From the admin dashboard in the browser, create the circles and add students, by hand or by importing an Excel or CSV file, then print their QR cards (10 cards per A4 sheet).

3

Install the teacher app and start

Install the Android app file on the teachers' phones, and make sure each phone and the mosque computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Open the app and it finds the mosque server automatically. Then start scanning cards!

If you see a message during setup

These are normal messages, shown because the files come from the GitHub releases page rather than an app store.

Windows showed a warning when you ran it?

Windows may warn that the publisher is unknown, because the file comes from outside the Microsoft Store. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.

Windows asked about the firewall?

On first run it may ask whether to let the server access the network. Choose “Private networks” so the teacher's phone can reach the server.

The phone blocks installing the app?

This is normal, because the app doesn't come from Google Play. When the message appears, turn on “Allow from this source” for the browser or the Files app, then go back and install.

start-here.sh doesn't run on Linux?

Open a terminal inside the unzipped folder and run: bash start-here.sh

How does the teacher's phone reach the mosque server without internet?

The system works over the mosque's local Wi-Fi network (LAN)

1. Automatic server discovery: When the teacher app opens on the mosque Wi-Fi, it looks for the server automatically and connects within seconds. It helps to turn off mobile data meanwhile.
2. If the server isn't found: Scan the QR code shown on the mosque computer's screen, or enter the address by hand, for example: http://192.168.1.100:3000.
